The city gained international status in 1996 as host of the Summer Olympic Games and its main attractions are now concentrated around the Centennial Olympic Park, a lasting legacy from the games. In the centre of this tranquil verdant area, the centrepiece Olympic Rings fountain is particularly popular with children in summer. In winter, a skating rink is set up here.
