This square is one of the loveliest in Berlin. It is named after Friedrich Wilhelm I's "Gens d'Armes" regiment, whose stables were once located here. The effects of symmetry, the troubling similarity of the churches and the grace of the architecture lend it great elegance. Gourmet restaurants, chic hotels, government ministries and embassies cluster around the square... the area is a magnet for the well-heeled, who come here to shop in the designer boutiques along Friedrichstraße.
