In former times, this beach was the city's natural harbour. At one end, on a small island linked to the coast by a small causeway, is the 18C Castillo de San Sebastián, a castle which is now home to a cultural centre. Located midway along the beach, the former Balneario de la Palma baths, now occupied by an archaeology centre, adds an air of bygone days to the beach.
