To feast your eyes on an extraordinary panoramic view over Cilaos and the three rocky peaks of the Trois Salazes, you need to climb an 800m gradient to the Taïbit Pass. Heading off from the D 242, between Cilaos and Îlet-à-Cordes, you'll mainly pass through shaded forest on your ascent. Take a break on the sloping ledge in the clearing where a stream runs. For experienced hikers, there is quite a steep path heading down from the pass into the Cirque de Mafate.
