Marienmünster Abbey was built on the site of a former Augustin monastery from 1732 to 1739 by Johann Michael Fischer, one of the most renowned architects of the late Baroque in southern Germany. The rich decoration of the stucco makes for a striking unity with the frescoes and precious altarpieces by famous Italian and southern Germany masters (such as Tiepolo and Straub).
