Horyu-ji or "Temple of flourishing law" represents the oldest group of wooden buildings in the world. A masterpiece of the Asuka period (607), it is a Unesco World Heritage Site. The Kon-do, Golden Pavilion, is home to a Shaka Nyorai triad. Next-door is the Gojuno-to, a five-storey pagoda, while the Daihozo-in (Treasure room) is notably the home of Kudara Kannon, a statue made out of camphor wood and the Tamamushi no zushi, a scroll belonging to Empress Suiko.
