Born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Benito Pérez Galdós (1840-1920) was the major realist writer describing 19C Spain. His prolific work is a precious reminder of what Spain, and particularly Madid, was like at the time. The house where he was born has been converted into a museum displaying manuscripts, souvenirs and personal objects.
