The former Karl-Marx-Platz, which has been completely renovated, is home to some of the city's most impressive monuments. On the northern side is the Opera House, built in 1956-1960 and boasting excellent acoustics. Right in your line of vision to the west is the Krochhaus, the city's first "skyscraper", built in 1928-1929 and crowned with a replica of the statues who strike the hours on Venice's clock tower. However, the most remarkable building is the City-Hochhaus (142m high) on the western side of the square.
