It takes approximately 2 hours on foot to reach the summit of Croagh Patrick. According to legend, all the serpents of Ireland plunged to their death when St Patrick rang his bell over the south precipice of this rock. Every last Sunday of July (Garland Sunday), a procession of pilgrims, some barefoot, climbs the stony slope to the church. On a clear day there is a fine view from the summit (763m).
