The Certosa di Pavia was founded in 1396 by Galeazzo Visconti. The essentially sober, elegant facade is literally covered in sculpture by the Mantagazza brothers and Amadeo, and is quite splendid! Inside, as well as the tomb of the founder, don't miss the works by Bergognone, the charming great cloisters and the triptych by Baldassare degli Embriachi incorporating hippopotamus teeth and ivory.
