It is from here that Francis Drake (1540-1596) is said to have observed the arrival of the "Invincible Spanish Armada" in 1588. It is still an ideal vantage-point from which to view the maritime traffic on the Sound, and the natural harbour at the mouth of the Tamar and Plym.
