Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, with the National Marine Conservation Area Reserve and the Haïda Heritage Site, protects 6,000km² of land and sea and some 600 archaeological vestiges from former villages, held sacred by the inhabitants of Haïda Gwaii. Set in dense rainforest, whose woodland is a treasure trove of fruit and berries, five natural and historic heritage sites reveal the remains of longhouses and mortuary and commemorative totem poles.
