The Telemark Museum comprises several different sites. The Brekke Museum occupies an old manor house dating from the early 19C and set in a park, Brekkeparken, which is also home to an open-air museum with traditional farms and buildings from the Telemark region. To the north of Skien, in Gjerpen, Henrik Ibsen's birthplace, Nordre Venstøp, has been converted into a museum.
