Accessible on foot, by bicycle or by car, Wakoto Peninsula is worth a visit for its onsen: a very simple bath perched on the edge of Lake Hussharo. It's best to come in winter, when there are fewer tourists. You can enter the (very!) warm waters and contemplate the frozen lake through the curls of smoke rising up around you... A vision of the far reaches of the earth, which you can prolong by taking the path that runs along the headland. Don't forget to bring a towel.
