De beoordeling van de Michelin Gids
This buff brick mansion, with a semidetached bow window overlooking the circle, was the residence of Herbert and Martha Wadsworth, wealthy landowners from upstate New York. Constructed around 1900 on a choice triangular lot, this elegant two-story structure is crowned by a roof balustrade and features a Palladian window above the principal entrance (on Massachusetts Ave). A gilded ballroom on the second floor was the scene of lavish social gatherings attended by prominent Washington personalities. In 1918 Wadsworth donated his residence to the Red Cross, which occupied the mansion until 1932. At that time it was sold to a group of Washington women who established the Sulgrave Club, one of the city's private social clubs.
