Despite its diminutive name, the "Petit" Ballon (1 267m) is the third highest peak in the Vosges, after the Hohneck (1 362m) and the Grand Ballon (1 424m). Depending on how much time you have, the weather and how energetic you are feeling, there are several options for exploring the mountain from every angle. For example, follow the path from the Kahlenwasen farmhouse (1hr 15min round trip) and you will be treated to a superb view of the Alsace plain, Black Forest, Grand Ballon massif and Fecht basin.
