Situated on the northwest tip of Sicily, away from any urban development, in an ochre and reddy brown landscape of gentle hills, Segesta's Greek temple and theatre combine to create one of the most evocative scenes of Antiquity in the Mediterranean. They bear witness to the prestigious past of a Greek, then Roman city, which was undoubtedly destroyed by the Vandals, but where people continued to live until the Middle Ages, as witnessed by the remains of a hermitage and Norman castle.
