The island of Tresco is part of the Scilly Isles archipelago off the coast of Land's End. From its westernmost landing point (New Grimsby), the path leads up past Cromwell's Castle, an 80m-high tower erected in 1651 as a defence against a possible Dutch invasion. The ruins of King Charles's Castle (1550-1554) can also be seen along this path.
