Beschrijving

West of the plateau, near the colossal statue of Vercingétorix by Bourguignon Millet, the view takes in the Laumes plain and the sites occupied by the Roman army during the siege of Alésia; beyond lies the Saulieu region. At the top end of the 100ha oppidum was a Gallo-Roman villa, its prosperity seemingly derived from significant metalworking activity. On exploring the site, note its fairly clear division into quarters around the forum.
