Lanzarote is the most original of the Canary Islands, its fascinating black lava landscapes studded with oases of greenery and crops, its shores caressed by intensely blue waters. Boasting a clash of colours and textures, the island has been able to safeguard its natural setting against the onslaught of tourism, even if it is much visited. You will recognise everywhere the hand of César Manrique, who made Lanzarote an ode to nature and art. Allow two days to visit the island.
