Inspired by the Loire castles, this opulent 250-room edifice (1895) belonged to George Vanderbilt, grandson of railway tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt. Equipped with central heating, electricity and two elevators, it was at the cutting-edge of technology at its creation.
