Carrick-a-Rede means "the rock on the road", as it stands in the path of salmon migrating upstream to spawn. Consequently, fishermen have been setting up their nets here for almost 400 years. The Rope Bridge that connects the rock to the coast was created 350 years ago. You reach it via a narrow, 800m path that skirts the top of the cliff, commanding an impressive view over the coast and Rathlin Island. Walking over it, 25m above the frothy waves, is a sensational experience.
