To the north of the Forbidden City, Coal Hill Park is one of Beijing's most endearing districts. Boasting a superb view of the city centre, particularly the golden rooftops of the Forbidden City, it is, in fact, a man-made hill created out of earth taken from the moats of the first Imperial City and from artificial lakes. Come here on a Sunday and you'll see locals playing games or exercising together.
