In Belgrade, the old Skadarlija neighbourhood was the heart of Serbia's cultural life from the late 19C to the early 20C. At that time, it was often compared to Montmartre in Paris on account of its artistic appearance and atmosphere, and was a magnet for bohemians: writers, painters, actors, musicians and famous journalists.
