In the Middle Ages, this was the centre of Chinon at the crossroads of Rue Haute-St-Maurice and Rue du Grand-Carroi, depicted by picturesque houses. A half-timbered house at N°45 is adorned with statues carved at the time of the Revolution, while the 15C-16C House of Assemblies at N°44 is home to the Musée Le Carroi. Finally, at N°38, the 14C Red House is the largest half-timbered abode of Chinon and used to house three shop stalls.
