The Catedral de Santa María de Ciudad Rodrigo was built from 1170 to 1230 in a transitional style between the Gothic and the Romanesque. The central apse was added in the 16C. The sculpture gallery above the porch de las Cadenas (southwestern porch), the Renaissance altar, the 72 Plateresque wooden stalls in the coro and the cloister are all noteworthy.
