Mountain Zebra National Park stretches from the Bankberg Range to Rooiplat plateau, and was created in 1937 to save the endangered Cape mountain zebra from extinction. It differs from its cousin, the Burchell zebra, by the patterns on its coat and its low, nasal whinny. Several hundred specimens live in the park, which also boasts wildebeest, antelopes, Cape buffaloes and black rhinos.
