The timber-framed buildings of Crèvecoeur-en-Auge Castle are a picture of medieval harmony, with a farm and feudal mound surrounded by moats filled with water. The dovecote (15C) with its 1 500 putlogs is a fine example of traditional Pays d'Auge architecture. After visiting the chapel (12C), head to the 15C manor house, protected by surrounding walls, and the orchard planted with 26 local varieties of apple trees.
