Dieppe Castle, built out of alternating layers of flint and sandstone, abuts a massive cylindrical tower that was once part of the city's defensive fortifications in the 14C. It is home to a maritime and an art museum and boasts a particularly fine collection of Dieppe ivory carved with minute detail by the ivory carvers who set up their workshops in Dieppe to take advantage of the elephant tusks arriving from Africa or Asia. Interesting paintings of Dieppe by Isabey, Boudin, Pissaro and Sisley, a modern collection of works by Dufy and Lurçat and engravings by Braque.
