The very name of Dion, derived from Dios (Zeus), expresses the glorious patronage of the city located at the foot of Mt Olympus, which made its entry into history under the reign of Archelaus. He introduced festivities that, for nine days every year, brought together the best athletes and actors of the Greek world. More than a town, Dion is a place of pilgrimage, renowned throughout Ancient times.
