The Orthodox Sopoćani Monastery, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, was founded in 1260 by King Uroš I Nemanjić near Novi Pazar. The interior of the building is decorated with magnificent frescoes dating from the mid-13C; they are among the most brilliant works of medieval Serbia. The building was deserted in 1698 and restored in 1925. Today, it has UNESCO World Cultural heritage status.
