The IMMA stages interesting retrospectives of contemporary artists and high-quality temporary exhibitions. The permanent collections include a few works by Vasarely, lithographs by European masters and a growing selection of Irish and international contemporary artists. The museum is located in the impressive Royal Hospital Kilmainham (17C), which housed army pensioners up until 1927. There is a small exhibition devoted to the building's history.
