Beschrijving
It had been planned to build the church (1785), with its spire, on St Andrew Square, but Sir Laurence Dundas amended those plans. It was here that the 1843 split occurred, when a group of pastors led by Dr Chalmers left the church after a debate on the control of nominations in the public service, and founded the Free Church of Scotland.
