A fine example of medieval architecture, the 13C Palazzo del Podestà has a remarkable courtyard, one of Italy's finest with a striking décor in the form of the coats of arms belonging to Florence's senior magistrates (whose residence this was). It is home to a museum of great importance, the Bargello, which focuses on Italian Renaissance sculpture and decorative arts. Note the marble and bronze sculptures by Michelangelo and the exceptional collection of works by Donatello.
