This vast esplanade offers a magnificent view of Florence: the landmarks visible here include, from right to left, in the foreground Santa Croce, behind and a little further to the left the cupola of the Duomo and its bell tower with, in front of them, the Bargello Tower and the bell tower of the Badia, and finally the Palazzo Vecchio and Ponte Vecchio. The monument in the centre of the square was erected in 1875 in memory of Michelangelo.
