Begun by Brunelleschi around 1420 close to the Palazzo Medici, this complex served as the parish church of this illustrious family, as well as their place of burial for over three centuries. Inside, the artist's break from Gothic tradition and his introduction of the classic Florentine Renaissance style are clearly visible. Admire also works by Donatello - the old sacristy and the pulpits in the nave. Access to the Biblioteca Laurenziana is via the cloister to the left of the church.
