This splendid 25,000ha-forest to the southeast of Paris, planted with oak and pine trees, is depicted by grey sand, purple heather and amazingly shaped sandstone rocks. The former Bière mountain range, once a royal hunting estate, offers a wide diversity of landscapes that has inspired countless artists and remains popular with hikers, cyclists, climbing enthusiasts and horse-riders.
