Mt Penha is accessible by cable car or car. The landscape changes the higher you go, from a forest of pine, mimosa and eucalyptus trees to enormous blocks of granite, polished by erosion. The descent offers a lovely view over the surrounding countryside. You have to travel to the statue of St Catherine for a panoramic view over the Serra do Morão to the south, Guiramarães and the Serra do Gerês to the north.
