This abbey with a tall tower, which stands on the southern bank of Black River, may be in ruins, but it is one of the best-preserved Franciscan monasteries in Ireland. It is thought to have been founded in 1351, and was greatly extended in 1496. The surrounding wall dates from 1572. The fine monastery buildings, partly intact, are interesting to see.
