This major shopping street was the start of the Royal Way, from the gate of the same name as far as the Rynek. It was lined with some of the city's finest residences, many of which had Renaissance or late-Gothic portals. Note the birthplace of Jan Matejko at no 41), a Romantic painter (1830-1893), now a museum (furniture, workshop, paintings and personal effects).
