The Serra del Montsant is ideal for hiking expeditions, leaving from Cornudella de Montsant, La Morera del Montsant, or from Escaladei. It is known as the Holy Mountain, because of its strong hermitage tradition, to which numerous caves bear witness. From a distance it appears as a barren crimson range, lending solemnity to the surrounding landscape. More practically, it contributes to the quality of the local wine by shielding the vineyards from the cold north wind.
