The tangled Maurienne valley, bordering the Vanoise range, is the result of its adaptation to the vertiginous terrain. Between Modane and Avrieux, the landscape bears the stamp of industry, while beyond Esseillon Fort, another valley appears. From Bramans to Lanslebourg, forests and rocky landscapes stretch out, followed by vast, windswept, treeless moors, beaten by the elements, with the high peaks of the Vanoise on the horizon.
