This magnificent 16C Hieronymites Monastery as built from 1502 is UNESCO World Heritage site. This art glorified the Great Discoveries after Vasco de Gama's return from the Indies. The beauty of the building lies in the quality of its soft and clear stone, which can be sculpted, and in the profusion of mouldings. With its two floors of richly decorated galleries, the cloister is a masterpiece of Manueline art.
