Beschrijving

This area that still has a village feel takes its name from a coloured stone cross that once stood here. It used to be the silk workers' area following Joseph-Marie Jacquard's invention, and the "bistanclaque'pan" (the noise of the loom) was the signature sound here for many years. La Croix-Rousse's traboules (covered passageways with many steps) were the setting for the silk workers' bloody revolts in 1831, 1834, 1848 and 1885.
