Located in the heart of the Indonesian archipelago, the island of Sulawesi has always been a trading hub. The island has some 18.5 million inhabitants descending from a mix of Indian, Chinese, Arab and European influences who have forged a unique ethnic and cultural melting pot. Like a giant octopus, Sulawesi has tentacles that form four long peninsulas, lapped at by the sea, and fringed by coral reefs.
