This square was the centre of public life at the time of the commune (13C). It is home to the Palazzo del Podestà (or Palazzo Broletto), built in the 13C and partially remodelled two centuries later. On its façade, note the 13C-14C statue of Virgil the orator. In the corner of the square stands the Torre Comunale, a tower which was later used as a prison.
