A village swallowed up by water... This terrible scenario was much written about, but old resentments have abated with time, and today the emerald waters of one of the largest lakes in France (35km long) are the delight of holiday-makers and sports fanatics. We recommend going around the lake in the late afternoon; although none of the routes follow the lake all the way round, they often bring you close to it and offer superb viewpoints, for example at the Belvédère du Regardoir.
