Beschrijving

The Entombment (1490) is a remarkably elegant ensemble on three levels representing the final episodes of the Passion. The figures were sculpted in local limestone by an artist who is unknown to this day. The centre of the scene is occupied by the figure of Christ in his shroud, supported by Louis I d'Amboise, bishop of Albi. Note the facial expressions of the figures standing around him and the details of their costumes. See also the 15C Pietà, the Christ on the Cross (15C) and the Christ on the Pillar.
