Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, commands respect due to its 19 peaks reaching over 3 000m, including Mt Cook (3 754m), New Zealand's tallest mountain. Over a third of the area is covered with glaciers such as the majestic Tasman.
