The site of Nazaré lies in the upper part of town, which can be reached via a staircase, by funicular or by car. At the top is the imposing Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazaré, in front of which a major pilgrimage takes place every year. A belvedere on the edge of the cliff, 110m above the sea, commands a lovely view of the lower town and the beach.
